First, let us be clear about who we are. Nablai (Shenzhen Nablai Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.) is an AI company whose focus today is AI smart toys, and our product is the AI smart toy module. Our customers are toy companies and contract manufacturers: they drop our module into plush toys, IP figures and educational hardware, and it becomes an AI toy. Building on three main control platforms - Tuya T5E, Espressif ESP32S3 and PY32 - Nablai ships three AI toy module families: TY, LX and NT. Modules are not all we do. The company runs a module + app two-track model: the LX Series comes with the full Nablai app, WeChat Mini Program and AMS vendor management platform, so a toy factory receives a complete hardware + software + operations package rather than a bare module on its own.
This is a retrospective. We helped one customer go from project kickoff to listing in five countries in just three months on the TY Series. There was no magic in it - just three decision points we got right. We are writing it down as a reference for toy factories weighing up overseas markets, and because we would like more small and mid-sized toy factories to feel able to take the step.
Guangdong Province recently issued its Action Plan for Accelerating AI Adoption in the Toy Industry (2025-2027), which sets a target of over 30% AI toy penetration across the province by 2027, supports expanding cross-border export channels for AI-plus-toy products, and calls for around ten flagship AI+ industry innovation cases. The policy signal is clear: taking AI toys overseas has moved from something individual companies do on their own initiative to an industry-level direction. For toy factories, beyond the saturated domestic market, buyers in Europe, the US and Southeast Asia will pay a premium for smart toys that hold a conversation and feel companionable - one of the most certain sources of growth this year. The plan also encourages leading companies to take the lead in building open AI development platforms and opening up data interfaces so that companies can exchange data. For small and mid-sized toy factories that is a concrete benefit: it means the technical barrier to going overseas is coming down fast.
Three decision points, taken one at a time
(Decision point 1) Platform selection: TY first, LX to consolidate. The customer led with North America, using the TY Series and its mature compliance posture to get overseas quickly. Once the overseas business was running steadily, they moved to the LX Series to build their own account system and Nablai app, bringing users and data back under their own control. (Decision point 2) Put compliance on the schedule up front. CE/FCC govern the hardware and radio side; COPPA/GDPR govern children's data and privacy. Both were kicked off on day one of the project, rather than being scheduled once the prototype was finished. (Decision point 3) Go deep on localization in your core markets. Start with English and Spanish, tune TTS/ASR properly for the way children speak, then extend to Japanese and other languages. Get those three things right and entering five countries in three months is a question of cadence, not luck.
Whichever product route you take, the architectural floor is the same. TY002 and LX002 both run a local SDK + cloud API dual-stack architecture: the local side handles device logic and real-time interaction (wake word, working offline), while the cloud provides AI conversation, multilingual support and OTA updates. The difference between them is ecosystem affiliation and brand ownership - TY works out of the box on the Tuya platform, while LX runs on Espressif ESP32S3 and supports the brand's own systems. NanoToy (PY32) is the pure UART command module: no AI, no cloud, no SDK, built for cost-sensitive volume. We hold to the dual stack because toy scenarios need both immediate response and continuous improvement: local keeps the conversation going even when the network drops, and the cloud keeps capability and content updating month by month.
We have built three product families:
- TY Series: built on Tuya T5E, with 60+ languages, 7+ Region global data centers and overseas pre-compliance (GDPR/COPPA/CCPA); a product in three months, the fast lane into global markets
- LX Series: built on Espressif ESP32S3, with a fully customizable independent account system, AMS vendor management platform and Nablai app, and complete brand ownership
- NT Series: built on PY32, a low-cost way to test the smart toy market
Which one you pick depends on whether you want to go overseas quickly, own the brand, or test the water cheaply. The three routes are not mutually exclusive - many customers lead with TY and use LX for the long-term brand.
How we fit the module into a customer's toy
Dropping a module in is not the end of the job. We offer two structures: split (the control box and the button panel are separate, preserving the toy's original button layout) and all-in-one (the button panel is integrated, suited to plush toys). Screens come in 0.85C / 0.91Y / 1.28Y, and functions are configured in D / A / T / V combinations. What the toy factory has to do is pick a structure and prepare the content, not build an embedded team from scratch. That is exactly why we run the module + app two-track model: hardware, AI, cloud and compliance packaged into a drop-in module.
FAQ
Q: How do we choose between TY and LX for overseas markets? A: It depends on the commercial goal. If you want to sell overseas quickly on the back of mature compliance, the TY Series carries GDPR/COPPA pre-compliance and 60+ languages and can reach a product within three months. If you want to build your own brand and own your user data, the LX Series gives you a fully customizable independent account system and AMS backend. Quite a few customers lead with TY and build the long-term brand on LX - the two routes do not conflict.
Q: Where do overseas projects most often get stuck? A: On compliance and certification scheduling. CE/FCC cover the hardware and radio side; COPPA/GDPR cover children's data and privacy. We recommend scheduling both at project kickoff, so you do not finish the prototype only to find certification takes several months. The TY Series has the mainstream compliance frameworks built in, which can shorten time to market considerably.
Q: How do we keep multilingual voices from sounding synthetic? A: The key is tuning TTS and ASR for the way children actually speak, not simply translating. The TY Series supports 60+ languages, but making it land means localizing for children's pronunciation, speaking rate and accent. We suggest locking in one or two core markets and going deep before expanding.
Q: Can we go overseas with small batches? A: Yes. The TY Series works out of the box: prototyping takes 2-3 weeks and a typical custom project reaches mass production in 3-4 months, which suits validating an overseas market with a small batch before scaling up. We have worked with dozens of toy companies and contract manufacturers, and this cadence is well proven.
