Two toys chatting with each other sounds like a fairy tale, but it is really a well-defined architecture. This article takes it apart at the system level: how private cloud accounts, an app and a message relay actually connect two toys.

The modules we build, and the dual-stack premise

Nablai (Shenzhen Nablai Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.) is an AI company whose main product is the AI module for smart toys. Built on three host platforms - Tuya T5E, Espressif ESP32S3 and PY32 - Nablai ships three AI toy module families, TY, LX and NT, on a dual-track module-plus-app model.

One premise has to be stated clearly:Both TY002 (Tuya T5E) and LX002 (Espressif ESP32S3) run a dual-stack architecture: a local SDK plus a cloud API. They differ in ecosystem ownership and brand sovereignty, not in a cloud-versus-local split. NanoToy (PY32) is a pure-UART command module with no cloud and no account, so social features are out of reach. The device side speaks the words, the cloud side carries them - whether social works at all depends on that cloud layer.

Piece one: the account system

Without accounts there is no who is friends with whom. LX002 runs on the Nablai private cloud and provides a complete account system: each toy is bound to one account, and both the child and the parent can manage it in the Nablai app or WeChat Mini Program. TY002 runs on Tuya Cloud accounts and can build social relationships inside the Tuya ecosystem, but brand sovereignty stays with Tuya.

Piece two: the message relay

Two toys can talk even when they are not on the same LAN, thanks to a cloud message relay service:

Voice, expression codes and interaction commands can all be relayed. The relay also handles offline message caching: when toy B is powered off, messages are held in the cloud and pushed through once it is back on.

Piece three: relationship management

Parents approve a friend list in the app, which can include toys at relatives' homes, classmates' homes or grandparents' in another city. Shared adoption is supported too: the whole family binds to the same AI pet, and it remembers what each person said. Permission to change relationships always stays with the parent.

Real scenarios

  • A brother's and a sister's toys become friends: two toys in the same household add each other, so the kids can exchange secret signals the moment they get home from school.
  • Grandparent and grandchild in different cities: the toy at grandpa's home in his hometown connects with the toy in his granddaughter's city, so he can spend time with her across the distance without having to use a phone.
  • A whole family sharing one AI pet: parents, children and grandparents all bind to it, and every interaction accumulates on the same pet.

Privacy is a red line

In social features for children, safety comes first. Messages are relayed inside the private cloud, a parent has to explicitly approve every friend, and a child cannot add strangers on their own. With LX002 the entire account system and all the data belong to the brand, which makes COPPA and GDPR compliance straightforward. Our advice to customers: ship social features switched off by default, let parents turn them on in the app and manage the list, and keep an auditable record of every cross-device message.

How to choose

If you want your own brand and your own user data, and you want social to become long-term stickiness, choose LX002: accounts, app and message relay all sit in your own cloud and sovereignty is complete. If you want to get overseas fast on a ready-made ecosystem, choose TY002, where social works inside the Tuya ecosystem. If you just want a low-cost way to test the water and do not need connected social features, choose NanoToy (PY32).

The three questions parents ask most

First, can they talk across different networks? Yes, the cloud message relay forwards across Wi-Fi networks and caches offline messages. Second, can a child add strangers? No, every friend has to be approved by a parent. Third, who owns the data? With LX002, the accounts and the data belong to the brand, which makes compliance easier.

FAQ

Q: Can a purely local toy do social? A: No. Without cloud accounts and a message relay, toys cannot talk to each other, and NanoToy (PY32) is a pure command module with no cloud and no account.

Q: Can TY002 do social? A: Yes, through Tuya Cloud accounts, with relationships built inside the Tuya ecosystem, but brand sovereignty stays with Tuya.

Q: How does shared adoption work? A: The whole family binds to the same AI pet account in the app, and it remembers what each person said.

The feedback we actually see

For customers who have shipped toy social, the parent comment we hear most often is that the child now believes the toy really has friends. For a toy factory, what social brings is relationship stickiness beyond repeat purchases: a child will not give up the pet that remembers them, and parents will keep paying for content and for those friendships. It is the most natural expression of hardware plus content plus services.

In closing

What toy social comes down to in the end is relationships, not features. We build it to be auditable, controllable and off by default, so parents can relax and children can enjoy it. For a toy factory that is both differentiation and responsibility.
